Pick Up Sticks Yard Game Rules
Before the Game
Any number of people may play. Everyone sits in a circle.
Start the Game
- One person holds the sticks upright touching the ground, then opens their hand to let the sticks fall. The sticks should all lay on top/under each other in a disarrayed fashion.
- Each person takes a turn at removing one stick from the pile, while trying not to move any of the other sticks.
- If a player moves any other stick apart from the one they are trying to remove, it is the next person's turn. But if they move the stick without any others, they have another turn and keep going until they move a stick and then it is the next person's turn.
- When the Mikado (blue) stick had been lifted, it may be used for the removal of further sticks.
Score
- blue (Mikado) stick = 20 points
- yellow (Mandarin) sticks = 10 points
- green (Samurai) sticks = 5 points
- red (Kuli) sticks = 5 points
End the Game
When all the sticks are gone, everyone counts the value of their sticks. The person with the highest score win!
Parts List
- 1 x blue (Mikado) stick
- 5 x yellow (Mandarin) sticks
- 10 x green (Samurai) sticks
- 10 x red (Kuli) sticks = 5 points
- 1 x mesh carry bag
Drinking Game Ideas
Tipsy Totals Tumble
- Follow the standard pick-up sticks rules, assigning point values to each colour:
- blue (Mikado) stick = 20 points
- yellow (Mandarin) sticks = 10 points each
- green (Samurai) sticks = 5 points each
- red (Kuli) sticks = 5 points each
- When a player successfully picks up a stick, they earn points equal to the stick's value.
- After picking up a stick, the player can distribute drinks to others based on the number of points they earned. For example, if a player picks up a Mikado stick (20 points), they can assign 20 sips to other players or distribute them however they like.
- If a player accidentally moves other sticks, they take a drink, and it's the next person's turn.
- The game continues until all sticks are picked up, and players follow through with their assigned drinks.
Sake Samurai Showdown
- Play by the standard pick-up sticks rules, with a twist.
- Assign each colour of stick a specific drinking action.
- blue (Mikado) = waterfall (everyone in the group must start drinking at the same time, and they cannot stop until the person who picked the "waterfall" stick decides to stop)
- yellow (Mandarin) = sip,
- green (Samurai) shot
- red (Kuli) = social (everyone drinks).
- When a player successfully picks up a stick, the person on their right perform the assigned drinking action.
- The game continues until all sticks are picked up, and players follow through with their assigned drinking actions.
Remember to play responsibly and adjust the rules to suit the dynamics of your group. Cheers!
Warning: Drink Responsibly
Drinking games and socialising with alcohol can be enjoyable, but it's crucial to approach them with responsibility and awareness. Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to serious health risks, impaired judgment, and adverse consequences. Here are some key points to consider:
Know Your Limits: Understand your tolerance for alcohol and recognise when you've had enough. Consuming excessive amounts can lead to alcohol poisoning and other health issues.
Stay Hydrated: Alternate alcoholic drinks with water to stay hydrated. Dehydration can intensify the effects of alcohol, leading to quicker intoxication.
Mindful Pace: Pace yourself while playing drinking games. Sipping slowly allows you to enjoy the experience without overwhelming your system.
Plan Transportation: If you've been drinking, arrange for a designated driver, use public transportation, or use rideshare services. Never drink and drive.
Respect Others: Be aware of how your drinking might affect those around you. Encourage a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
Know the Rules: Understand the rules of any drinking game you're playing, and make sure everyone involved is comfortable with the level of alcohol consumption.
Eat Before Drinking: Consuming food before drinking can help slow down alcohol absorption and mitigate its effects.
Monitor Peer Pressure: Don't succumb to peer pressure. It's okay to decline a drink or set your own pace. Respect others' decisions regarding alcohol consumption.
Please note that we provide these rules for entertainment purposes, and we promote responsible drinking. We are not responsible for any actions or consequences resulting from excessive alcohol consumption. Always prioritise your well-being and the well-being of those around you.
Remember, the goal is to have fun and socialise responsibly. If you or someone else shows signs of alcohol-related distress, seek help immediately. Cheers to a safe and enjoyable time!
